What You Should Be Doing This Spring

March 16, 2016Fashion

Embrace yourself.

These two words hold so much more than fifteen characters.
I don’t know about you, but personally whenever spring rolls around, I start wanting to change things.  My clothes, my room, the clothes covering my room, my hair, my skin- you name it.  For some reason the sunshine and blooming flowers make me want to start over.  I don’t think there is anything wrong with this, but I do think that people can often lose their intentions in the process of change.
It seems like this is the time of year when everyone starts to freak about prom, bikini season and etc.  Please do not get me wrong, I think it is amazing when people are driven to get in shape and change their lifestyle habits.  That’s not why I am writing this.  I’m writing this to the girl who logs onto Instagram and sees a professionally produced picture of a slender female jogging gracefully into the ocean wearing a string bikini and captioning the photo “#springbreak2016.”

The fact of the matter is that picture was not real life.  Yes, the model is probably just as beautiful in real life, but you know what?
So are you.
Not everyone in the world is a size two glamazon that doesn’t sweat whilst taking pictures on a tropical beach (seriously, how?).  Similarly, not everyone has a toned butt or a six pack or biceps of steel.  And no, not every woman has been blessed with voluptuous curves either.
I think something beautiful has been happening in the fashion industry over the past year.  More and more brands seem to be realizing and celebrating that all women are unique.  You are so much more than the size that you pick up off of the rack.  It doesn’t matter that you are petite or plus size or everything in-between.  You are beautiful and you deserve to be represented.
So this brings me to my final point.  This spring, when you see those “#goals girls” as I like to call them on social media, don’t attack yourself for not seeing the same image in the mirror.  Be thankful for the body you have been given and treat it with respect.  It’s not so uncommon that those girls posting pictures in bikinis will have the very same insecurities as you.  A picture is a milli-second of someone’s day.  Please don’t ever forget that.

SHOP MY LOOK

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

Alright, my people.  Let’s all try to be #bodypositive this spring/summer and foster a community where women and girls feel comfortable to embrace themselves and their figures.  How will you be #bodypositive this year?  I’d love to hear from you in the comments or on social media.  Spread the conversation!  Thanks for stopping by.
